Mosbach, November 24, 2022 – The claim that the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) would replace the Manufacturing Execution System (MES) is clearly refuted in the new VDMA publication "MES & IIoT". On the contrary, it is evident that the systems complement each other and provide different views of the production processes.
Important issues for MES and IIoT
Apart from the basic classification of MES and IIoT, the VDMA publication covers topics in the Smart Factory environment that are also important to MPDV. Markus Diesner, Senior Marketing Specialist Products at MPDV, explains: "Of course it's about new technologies, but the focus is on applications that offer real added value to manufacturing companies. The energy management is a good example of how valuable these services can be, as it supports companies today to produce efficiently.” The publication also discusses standardization, interoperability, and innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence.
Dedicated association activities
Markus Diesner is committed to specialist associations, among them the VDMA working group, to shape and spread the MES idea. "There are simply too many commercially influenced opinions on the subject of Industry 4.0 and IIoT. A neutral white paper from a recognized industry association like the VDMA is a great help when it comes to clearing up all assumptions and benefit claims," says Markus Diesner. The VDMA publication is based on the collaboration of a number of experts from different MES suppliers and shows once again that it is not always just about competition.
