Mosbach, 17.11.2021 – Nowadays, it's no longer a problem from a technical point of view, but somehow hardly any companies dare to move their manufacturing IT completely to the cloud. Experts from MPDV explain how to make such a venture a success and what users should bear in mind.
The number of providers offering manufacturing IT via SaaS (Software as a Service) is continuously increasing, but numerous manufacturing companies are still skeptical and ask themselves: Is my data secure? What happens if the Internet connection is intermittently lost? Is SaaS performance powerful enough? Experts from MPDV explain in three statements what users should look out for in manufacturing IT from the cloud.
If you say Cloud, you must also say Edge!
Matthias March, Director Product Management at MPDV, points out: "Cloud computing offers many advantages. But the Smart Factory needs more than that, it calls for cloud and edge. Edge computing ensures that even time-critical processes run securely." To the video statement by Matthias March: https://youtu.be/TVc3oKVTxls
Decentralized data collection
“Data collection in the Smart Factory must be decentralized or let’s say performedd in the edge," states Erik Schostal, Senior Product Manager Shop Floor Integration at MPDV. “This allows us to react to relevant changes in real time while making efficient use of the potentially limited Internet bandwidth available in the cloud.”
Smart Factory Cloud Services
Jürgen Petzel, Managing Director Sales at MPDV, exemplifies: "With Smart Factory Cloud Services, we create a favorable starting position for our customers. We take care of operation, maintenance and support of all server side applications. The pioneering platform architecture of our products gives us maximum flexibility and allows us to offer every customer an individual standard solution." Looking beyond technology
Petzel also expects that, over time, an increasing number of companies will opt for manufacturing IT from the cloud — after all, the ERP environment is already leading the way. Petzel adds,”The technical hurdles have to be removed, but at MPDV are are always happy to provide support in this area."
