Poka Yoke – Smart Factory Glossary

Poka Yoke is a quality management method that aims to prevent errors in processes or correct them immediately. This approach often uses simple visual aids to prevent errors. Poka Yoke originated in Japan and literally means "avoiding errors".

The aim of Poka Yoke is to identify sources of error and design processes in such a way that errors cannot occur. Human errors, for example, should be made impossible in the production process or become immediately apparent. The result is improved product quality and increased customer satisfaction. 

The advantages of Poka Yoke are manifold, such as reducing scrap and rework costs, promote flawless production, and increase efficiency. Since the method replaces complex instructions with intuitive solutions, companies benefit from increased process reliability and reduced training requirements for employees.
